Wounding case in Wong Tai Sin reclassified as murder

     Police reclassified a wounding case in Wong Tai Sin last Friday (January 15) as murder today (January 18).

     About 12.15am last Friday, Police received a report that five boys, aged between 14 and 17, were assaulted by another group of males outside Lung Chi House at Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate. Four mobile phones which worth about $5,000 were being robbed during the incident.

     Police sped to the scene and located the five victims. All victims sustained injuries and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment.

     After initial investigations, Police arrested five males, aged between 13 and 21, for wounding and robbery in Wong Tai Sin and Fanling areas on the same day and the following day (January 16). They were released on bail pending further enquiries.

     Among the five victims, a 15-year-old boy, who sustained serious injuries to his abdomen, was subsequently certified dead at 12.05pm today. A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of his death.

     Active investigations by Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon East are under way.

     Police urged anyone who saw the incident or who has any information to offer to contact the investigating officers on 2767 1461.
