Free "Swing Party" features renowned dancers and bands this Sunday (with photos)
************************************************************

Three pairs of internationally renowned professional swing dancers together with the Hong Kong Big Band Jazz Federation will perform in a free "Swing Party" this Sunday (January 17) from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza.

The Lindy Hop or the Jitterbug is powerful, lusty, faster than whiplash and famously sexy. A couple dancing the Lindy Hop work together like pistons, pulling close and pushing apart, swinging each other out of sight to the driving rhythm of a live big band. The three pairs of dancers are: Brian Ang and Sing Lim (Singapore), Max Pitruzzella (France) and Annie Trudeau (Canada), and Peter Vawter (California & Japan) and Jandi Kim (Korea). During the show, Swing dancers will also teach and guide the audience on the steps of this exciting dance.

Also performing at the party is the Hong Kong Big Band Jazz Federation, comprising four big bands: the Basic Notes Jazz Big Band, Stray Katz Big Band, Saturday Night Jazz Orchestra and Lando Bernal's Big Broad Band. They will play unforgettable hits from the Swing era by such luminaries as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.

Sing Lim, a true pioneer of the Swing movement in Asia, is the creative director of Jitterbugs Swingapore, Singapore's largest dance studio. She has won several international competitions. Brian teaches Tap and Lindy Hop and has choreographed dance routines for TV and stage productions. Together, they are committed to developing the local and regional dance communities.

Swing dancer Max Pitruzzella is a highly versatile dancer, able to adapt to both very slow and very fast tempos when dancing with a partner. He is also incredibly skilled at solo dancing. His partner, Annie Trudeau, combines dynamism and power with a very feminine subtlety in her dancing. Together they've won many awards, including the Hellzapoppin contest at the Frankie 95 event in New York City.

Peter Vawter is acknowledged as one of the most musical Lindy dancers in the world, and has won the American Blues title twice. He has been performing in musicals, plays and dance shows as an actor, dancer, violinist and vocalist. Jandi Kim from Korea is known for her smoking-hot swivels and her creative dancing style. She has been nominated and won titles at the American Lindy Hop Championships, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown and Korea Swing Festival & Championships.

"Swing Party" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in association with the Hong Kong Fringe Club, and supported by the HK Swings. For programme enquiries, please call 25911340 or visit the web site: www.lcsd.gov.hk/eo .
