The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (January 13) leads a delegation to attend the Eighth Joint Meeting of Senior Health Officials of the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, which will be held in Macao tomorrow (January 14).
Senior health officials will at the meeting exchange views and share experiences in four areas - notification of infectious diseases, prevention and control of human swine influenza, food safety and Chinese medicine - to further strengthen the foundation for co-operation among the three places. It is hoped that the three places can play a complementary role to each other with the common objective of safeguarding public health and fostering co-operation in healthcare and medical issues.
Dr Chow will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the meeting tomorrow morning reviewing the Government's work in the above areas and outlining future work plans.
Members of the Hong Kong delegation include the Chairman of the Hospital Authority, Mr Anthony Wu, the Director of Health, Dr Lam Ping-yan, the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, and the Government Chemist, Dr Ting Tai-lun.
Dr Chow will return to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon.
