Judicial Appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (January 8) announced the appointment of Mr Joseph Paul FOK, SC as Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.  The appointment will take effect from February 1, 2010.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.  

     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical note of the appointee is as follows:

Mr Joseph Paul FOK, SC

     Mr Joseph Fok, SC was born in 1962 in Hong Kong.  He obtained LL.B. from the University College London in the United Kingdom in 1984.   He was called to the English and the Hong Kong Bar in 1985 and 1986 respectively.  He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1991.  He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 1999.  He was appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court from 2003 to 2009.  He has been in private practice since 1987.
