New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin tonight

     Tens of thousands of people poured into Sha Tin tonight (December 31) to take part in the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival 2009.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the carnival began at 8.30pm and runs until 12.15am tomorrow (New Year's Day) at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square.

     Decorated with festive lightings, the carnival showcased a variety of delightful entertainments including standard and Latin American dance, Brazilian music and dance, a marching band, percussion, pop singers, piano and saw music performances, a magic show, golden oldies and interactive carnival games.

     At the "Mail Box 2010" corner, people wrote down their New Year wishes on message slips which were displayed on a TV Wall. City Art Square, which showcased sculpture from around the world, has turned into a modern dance stage, adding festive atmosphere to the carnival.
 
     The carnival reaches its climax at midnight with the countdown ceremony complemented with pyrotechnics.
