Special traffic arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island

Police will implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate a public procession to be held from Central to Western district on Friday (January 1, 2010).

The procession will start at about 3pm from Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central to Connaught Road West in Western district.

During the procession, the following road closure and traffic diversion will be implemented from about 3pm when necessary until the conclusion of the event.

(A) Road closure

a) A section of Ice House Street including the pedestrian precinct between Chater Road and Des Voeux Road Central and the section between Des Voeux Road Central and Queen・s Road Central;
b) The left first lane of a section of Queen・s Road Central between Ice House Street and Wellington Street;
c) The right first lane of a section of Queen・s Road Central between Wellington Street and Possession Street;
d) The right first lane of a section of Queen・s Road West between Possession Street and Chiu Kwong Street;
e) Chiu Kwong Street;
f) Siu Cheung Fong; and
g) The left first lane of a section of Des Voeux Road West between Chiu Kwong Street and Centre Street.

(B) Traffic diversion

a) Traffic along northbound Ice House Street must turn left onto westbound Queen・s Road Central;
b) Traffic along westbound Queen・s Road Central will be prohibited from turning left onto D・Aguilar Street;
c) Traffic along westbound Queen・s Road Central may be prohibited from turning right onto northbound Morrison Street;
d) Traffic along southbound Morrison Street may be prohibited from turning right onto westbound Queen・s Road Central;
e) Traffic along southbound Morrison Street may be diverted onto Jervois Street;
f) Traffic along Queen・s Road West may be prohibited from turning right onto Centre Street; and
g) The tram lane along a section of westbound Des Voeux Road West between Eastern Street and Chiu Kwong Street will be suspended and traffic along Des Voeux Road West will be diverted to the tram lane if necessary.

Subject to prevailing traffic condition, the following diversion may be implemented at anytime when necessary:

a) Traffic from northbound Garden Road will be prohibited from turning left onto Queen・s Road Central;
b) Traffic from westbound Queensway will be diverted to southbound Cotton Tree Drive except that franchised buses will be diverted to westbound Des Voeux Road Central; and
c) Traffic from southbound Cotton Tree Drive will be prohibited from turning right onto Queen・s Road Central.

(C) Suspension of car parks

From 3pm onwards until the closed roads are re-opened after crowd dispersal, vehicles will not be allowed to enter or exit the following car parks:

1) No. 9 Ice House Street;
2) No. 15 Queen・s Road Central (entrance at Ice House Street);
3) No. 33 Stanley Street; and
4) No. 100 Queen・s Road Central (entrance at Stanley Street).

All vehicular accesses and exits within the closed roads will be suspended until the roads are re-opened.

(D) Suspension of tram stops, bus stops and green mini-bus stops

Tram stops at both bounds of Des Voeux Road West near the junction of Western Street will be suspended from 3.30pm.

The bus stops and green mini-bus stops along the procession route will be suspended during the public procession.

Members of the Public are advised to use public transport service and avoid driving to the affected areas.

Motorist should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of the Police at the scene.
