Appointment to Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service

     The Chief Executive had re-appointed Mr Christopher Cheng Wai-chee as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service for a period of one year with effect from January 1, 2010, a Government spokesman announced today (December 18).

     The Chief Executive has also re-appointed Miss Jacqueline Pamela Leong as a member of the Judicial Committee for a period of two years with effect from January 1, 2010; and appointed Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan, Mr Chow Chung-kong and Mr Lester Garson Huang as new members of the Judicial Committee for a period of two years with effect from January 1, 2010.

     Three members of the committee, Mr Henry Fan Hung-ling, Dr Victor Fung Kwok-king and Mr Herbert Tsoi Hak-kong, will retire on December 31, 2009. "We would like to thank the three outgoing members for their valuable contributions to the Judicial Committee," the spokesman said.

     The Judicial Committee is tasked to advise and make recommendations to the Chief Executive on matters concerning the salary and conditions of service of judges and judicial officers.

     Other members of the Judicial Committee are Professor Chan Yuk-shee and Mr Brian Li Man-bun.
