Police issued 52 summonses and fixed penalty tickets to public light bus (PLB) drivers during a territory-wide operation against traffic offences involving PLBs yesterday (December 16) and today (December 17).
During the 2-day campaign, Police conducted 16 operations with officers patrolling at PLBs to observe the driving manner of drivers. Plainclothes officers were also posed as PLB passengers to combat various traffic offences. Fifty-two summonses and fixed penalty tickets were issued to the PLB drivers for various traffic offences. One PLB was suspected of not complying with the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance) Regulations and detained for Vehicle Examination. Besides, 18 summonses were issued to PLB passengers for not fastening seat belts.
Police have accorded high enforcement priority against passenger service vehicles committing traffic offences such as dangerous driving, careless driving, speeding and traffic light offences.
Police will continue to take various enforcement actions with a view to improving road safety.
