Stalls of the 2010 Fong Ma Po Fair in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, will be put up for open auction at the Tai Po Community Centre on December 30 (Wednesday).
A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said today (December 16) that the fair would be held to tie in with the arrangements for protecting the Wish Making Trees. It would be held between February 14 and 28 next year, from 8am to 6pm daily.
The opening prices for each of the 22 dry goods stalls and six wet goods stalls are $790 and $920 respectively.
The auction will begin at 9.30am on December 30. Dry goods stalls will be auctioned first, followed by wet goods stalls.
Bidders must be at least 18 years old and ordinarily resident in Hong Kong. Children under six years of age will not be allowed to enter the auction venue.
Anyone can bid for more than one stall. A successful bidder must pay the bid price of the stall immediately after the auction or will forfeit the right to the stall, and the stall concerned will be re-auctioned immediately.
To protect the Wish Making Trees, stall operators will not be allowed to sell placards tied with any heavy object (including fruit). The licence agreements of those who fail to comply with the requirement will be terminated.
The measures among departments concerned are co-ordinated by the Tai Po District Office of the Home Affairs Department and supported by local people.
The fair site will be made available three days in advance for the setting up of stalls from February 11 to 13. However, no business shall be conducted on these three days.
Stall licensees must remove the stall structure and paraphernalia, together with refuse, debris and unsold commodities (whether damaged or otherwise) from the licensed area before 6pm on February 28, 2010. Licensees should not damage or abandon any unsold commodities at or in the vicinity of their stalls.
