SEN attends Copenhagen climate summit (with photos)
***************************************************

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (December 15, Denmark time)  shared Hong Kong's experience in formulating strategies and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with political and international leaders at the Copenhagen Climate Summit for Mayors.

In the morning, Mr Yau addressed the opening press conference for the Copenhagen Climate Summit for Mayors.

The mayors speaking at the press conference agreed that while the UN negotiations were going on, cities should act on climate change every day by creating comprehensive solutions in energy efficiency, transport, waste, lighting, renewable energy, water resources, behavioural change and in planning and infrastructure.

Mr Yau said, "Sustainability is key reason why Hong Kong is keen to cut its greenhouse gas emissions. We have developed a low carbon strategy based on low energy consumption which can help sustain economic growth while at the same time minimise our carbon footprint."

He later joined the presentations which showcased future developments in urban cycling.

After attending a VIP lunch hosted by Climate Leaders Summit 2009, he will deliver a speech and exchange views with participants at the roundtable discussion on "Low Carbon Transport - Mass Transit and Green Vehicles".

He will later join a reception co-hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (London) and Denmark-Hong Kong Trade Association.

By evening, he will attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) High Level Opening Ceremony at Bella Centre and "Seal the Deal in Copenhagen" reception and dinner.

Mr Yau will attend the Joint High-level Segment of COP15 from tomorrow (December 16).
