SEN visits Sweden (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (December 13, Sweden time) started his visit in Malmo, Sweden, to see environmental facilities and to call on officials to discuss issues of common concern.

     Mr Yau met the Mayor of Malmo, Mr IImar Reepalu, to discuss environmental protection issues during a lunch reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (London).

     He then visited the West Harbour in Malmo to see how a densely built urban environment could be developed into a leading example of sustainable development.  

     He also visited a waste incineration plant of Sysav South Scania Waste Company and a power plant, E.ON, to learn more about their green initiatives.

     Mr Yau will attend as a member of the Chinese delegation, the 15th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 15 (local time). He will share Hong Kong's experiences in formulating strategies and measures to tackle climate change with other participants and draw references from their experiences in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
