Exhibition on Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo (with photos)

     An exhibition to promote Hong Kong's participation in Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) kicked off today (December 12) in the 44th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE) at Victoria Park.

     The exhibition consists of three parts.  The "Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo" Pavilion gives an introduction to Shanghai Expo and highlights Hong Kongˇ¦s participation in the mega event.  Also on display are a model of the Hong Kong Pavilion and a video covering Hong Kong's activities in Shanghai Expo.

     The second part, "Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo" game zone, includes a puzzle game and a photo booth featuring Hong Kong Pavilion as well as Hong Kong's exhibition at the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA).  Visitors can get information about Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo through interactive means with fun.

     "HKBPE : Best Wishes to Expo 2010 Shanghai China" is set up for visitors to send their best wishes to Shanghai Expo and to show their support of Hong Kong's participation in the mega event.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, said Hong Kong warmly welcomes the hosting of Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

     Mr Lam said Shanghai Expo provides a great opportunity for Hong Kong to promote our status as Asia's world city and he believes that this will strengthen the Shanghai-Hong Kong cooperation.

     It will also enhance the international status of China through the hosting of such an international mega-event, Mr Lam added.

     Mr Lam outlined Hong Kong's plan for this event.

     Hong Kong is involved in Shanghai Expo in four different aspects. These include constructing and operating a standalone pavilion under the theme of "Hong Kong ˇV A City with Unlimited Potential" to showcase the infinite imagination and creativity of Hong Kong; taking part in the UBPA exhibition with "Smart CardˇDSmart CityˇDSmart Life" as the theme; organising a series of activities and performances in and outside Expo site during the Expo period; and building a "virtual pavilion" as well as a "virtual UBPA exhibition" for the Expo Shanghai Online project to be launched on May 1, 2010 to provide netizens with a realistic and virtual experience of Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo.

     Also officiating at today's ceremony were Vice Director, Executive Committee of the World Expo Shanghai China, Ms Zhong Yanqun;  Director and General Manager of China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Zhou Laiwei; Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Joshua Law; Director of Information Services, Mr Michael Wong;  Assistant Director, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Mr Wang Rudeng; President of The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, Mr Paul Yin; and Director, Asia Tourism Exchange Centre Limited, National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China, Mr Lin Shan.

     The Shanghai Expo mascot Haibao made a special appearance at the opening ceremony to drum up support for the event.

     Located at the "Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo Exhibition Zone" in the high-traffic central area of the HKBPE, the exhibition in the "Connect to Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo" Pavilion is jointly organised by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited.   It is  open till January 4, 2010 daily from 11 am to 10 pm with extended hours to 1 am on December 24 and 31. Visitors will receive a special souvenir.

     In addition to the exhibition, a "Hong Kong at Shanghai Expo" fun day will take place on Christmas day at the HKBPE. It will include performances and games to publicise Hong Kong's participation in Shanghai Expo.

     Shanghai Expo will be held from May 1 to October 31, 2010.

     More than 240 countries, cities and international organisations including Hong Kong will participate in the mega event, which is expected to attract 70 million visitors from the Mainland and worldwide.
