US authorities said Unilever United States, Inc, the company concerned, was recalling all the Slim-Fast RTD products in cans (11 fl oz/325ml) in the country.

Bacillus cereus is a ubiquitous micro-organism in the environment, usually found in contaminated food. It may produce toxins under favourable conditions like room temperature. Symptoms include diarrhoea and vomiting which may occur within hours of ingestion.

"Based on information collected, three affected products, namely 'Slim-Fast Ready To Drink Optima Rich Chocolate Royale(UPC008346037384)', 'Slim-Fast Ready To Drink Optima French Vanilla(UPC008346037414)' and 'Slim-Fast Ready To Drink Optima Strawberries n'cream (UPC008346037438)' were on sale in city'super chain store," a CFS spokesman said.

"The CFS has learned that the supermarket has stopped selling those particular products.  If consumers have bought any of the products, they should not consume them," he said. Consumers can contact the concerned supermarket for enquiries.

"The centre has contacted the US authorities for further information. We have alerted the trade to stop selling the affected products and are monitoring the situation," the spokesman added.
