Anti-drug TV drama series to be launched next week (with photos)
*********************************************************

The television drama series "The Beauty of the Game", sponsored by the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau and the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), will be broadcast next Monday (December 14) on Jade channel of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB).

The Government has been carrying out publicity and preventive education by using different platforms and channels to promote anti-drug messages.  In view of the far-reaching influence of television drama series, the ND and ACAN commissioned TVB to produce "The Beauty of the Game".  With the help of the electronic media, anti-drug messages can be disseminated to a wide audience to raise awareness of the dire consequence of abusing drugs.

Speaking at the premiere of the drama series today (December 8), the Principal Assistant Secretary for Security, Mr Eric Lee, said, "There is still misunderstanding about drugs despite concern from all sectors of the community.  Some people think drugs can be categorised as 'soft' and 'hard'.  Others still believe stress can be relieved by taking psychotropic substances.  Some even believe that taking psychotropic substances occasionally will bring no harm to the body.  It is necessary to enhance our publicity and preventive education efforts so that the public will understand there is no distinction between 'soft' and 'hard' drugs.  They should never try!"

The Chairperson of the ACAN Sub-committee on Preventive Education and Publicity, Ms Scarlett Pong, also attended the event and officiated at the premiere together with Mr Lee, TVB representatives, and the drama's cast.

"The Beauty of the Game", which consists of 20 episodes, will be broadcast on December 14 and in the following four consecutive weeks, from Monday to Friday at 9.30pm on TVB Jade channel.

The story is about how television actresses struggle in the entertainment industry, using drugs to release pressure and escape from reality.  However, in the end, both their careers and lives are ruined.
