The following is issued on behalf of the 2009 East Asian Games Company:
The President of the International Olympic Committee, Count Jacques Rogge, left the SAR today (December 7) after a three-day visit. He was seen off at the airport by the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, and the Chairman of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) Planning Committee, Mr Timothy Fok, this afternoon.
Count Rogge came here as one of the VIP guests to attend the EAG and its official opening held on the waterfront of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre last Saturday (December 5).
He was impressed by the original and creative opening ceremony produced against the natural backdrop of Victoria Harbour and described it as an absolutely smashing, brilliant opening ceremony.
"I have seen many opening ceremonies in my long Olympic life. And this deserves a gold medal," Count Rogge said.
