Renowned musicians to perform in Tai Po International Concert

The following is issued on behalf of the Tai Po District Council:

     World renowned violinist Takako Nishizaki, aspiring young pianist Chan Jie, outstanding erhu player Hsin Hsiao-hung, and pop song singers Ivana Wong and Pong Nan will join the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong to perform in the Tai Po International Concert at the Amphitheatre of Tai Po Waterfront Park in Tai Fat Street, Tai Po, this Wednesday (December 9) evening.

     The concert is organised by Tai Po District Council's Working Group on Promotion of East Asian Games 2009 in support of the "Cultural EAG" theme of the Hong Kong 2009 EAG. It aims to bring the arts to the community and showcase Hong Kong's unique East-meets-West culture.

     A number of classics will be performed in the concert, including Vivaldi's "Winter" (from "The Seasons"), Mozart's "Divertimento No. 11", Chen Gang and He Zhan-hao's "Butterfly Lovers and Sakura", Wang Jian-zhong's "Hundred of Birds Paying Respects to the Phoenix", theme song from the Titanic "My Heart Will Go On", and "Wishing We Last Forever".

     Students from the Japanese International School in Tai Po will also sing nursery rhymes from Japan and give a taiko performance.

     All tickets to the concert have been distributed but a free admission zone will be set up on the lawn next to the Spiral Lookout Tower in Tai Po Waterfront Park where the public can watch the live broadcast of the concert on a big screen and enjoy the enchanting music and performance under the starlit sky.

     The concert will start at 7pm and the public will be admitted to the free admission zone from 6pm on a first-come, first-served basis. The zone can hold a few hundred people.

     Shuttle bus service will be arranged for the audience from 5.30pm to 8pm, and from 9.30pm to 10.30pm. For details of the bus routes, please visit the website at www.taipotour.com/tpconcert.html.

     The concert is jointly organised by Tai Po Youth Association, co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Tai Po Safe and Healthy City Steering and Working Committee, and sponsored by the Tai Po District Council.
