The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, extended congratulations to Hong Kong athletes for winning two gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 2009 East Asian Games today (December 5).
Mr Steven Wong seized the first gold medal in men's BMX cycling event, while Mr Chan Kwok-ming, Mr Marco Fu and Mr Fung Kwok-wai won another gold medal in men's team snooker match. Mr Eric Lee and Mr Lee Chen-man scored a silver medal and a bronze medal respectively in men's match of English billiards. A bronze medal was also gained by the Hong Kong team in men's table tennis competition.
"Hong Kong athletes have demonstrated their excellent skills and perseverance at the very beginning of the games, seizing?five medals. We are very proud of their outstanding achievements," Mr Tsang said.
He encouraged the Hong Kong delegation to strive for excellence and wished them every success in the upcoming events.
