The spokesperson of Prince of Wales Hospital today (December 5) made the following announcement regarding the death of a human swine influenza (HSI) patient:
A 95-year-old male patient with hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and dementia developed flu symptoms on November 28 and attended the Accident and Emergency Department of Prince of Wales Hospital on the same day. He was admitted to isolation ward for treatment. HSI positive result was confirmed on November 29 and the patient was prescribed with antibiotics. The patient remained critical and he finally succumbed in the afternoon today. The hospital would like to express its condolences to the patient's family.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
