A public lecture, "Prof Charles K Kao and Optical Fibre", was held today (December 4) at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL).
The lecture, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, was a tribute to Prof Kao for his achievement in research into optical fibre communications technology and to commemorate his being awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Prof Ching Pak-chung, Adjunct Professor of the Department of Building and Construction of the City University of Hong Kong Dr Albert So Ting-pat, and Professor of the Department of Information Engineering of CUHK Prof Wong Po-choi, shared with the audience their experiences with Prof Kao and optical fibre communications technology.
Mrs M W Kao was also present at the seminar and spoke to the audience on behalf of Prof Kao. A video clip of Prof Kao¡¦s speech at the HKCL in 2002 was also shown.
