SFST visits Tai Po district (with photos)
*****************************************

The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, visited Tai Po district today (November 23) for an update on its development.

Professor Chan, accompanied by Tai Po District Officer, Mr Ivan Lee, first visited an elderly woman in her 80s who is living alone in Tai Po Market. At the same time, with the coordination of the Salvation Army Tai Po Integrated Service for Senior Citizens and the assistance of the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services, young volunteers from the "Be-Pe Cheerer Project" provided home-cleaning service to the elderly. Professor Chan greeted her with a gift and gave her a Clean Hong Kong Campaign disinfectant pack. Professor Chan also expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for their home-cleaning service.

Professor Chan then arrived at the Lane-Square in Tai Po (Kwong Fuk Lane, Tai Wing Lane, Tai Kwong Lane and Tai Ming Lane) to inspect the environmental improvement works there. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Housing Authority carried out greening and district revitalisation projects there in 2007 and 2008 respectively to provide a more enjoyable environment for local residents and tourists as well as a better business environment for local shops. While touring the Lane-Square, Professor Chan also chatted with shop owners to get an update of the recent economic and spending conditions.

Professor Chan then visited the Tai Po Community Centre to learn about the progress of its improvement works.

Before concluding his visit, Professor Chan exchanged views with Tai Po district councillors on issues of common interest at a tea gathering.
