The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, today (November 20) saw the "Prosperous Cities: A Selection of Paintings from the Liaoning Provincial Museum" at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
The exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Liaoning Provincial Museum. It is one of the celebration programmes for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as one of the activities featured in "Creative October". Prosperous cities, especially metropolitan life south of the Yangtze River, are the focus of this exhibition. It features a selection of 15 important Ming and Qing paintings on loan from the Liaoning Provincial Museum.
"I am glad that many students come to see the exhibition. After implementation of the new senior secondary curriculum, students have more opportunities to expose themselves to arts and culture outside classroom." Mr Tang said, "Arts education, audience-building and content-building are the three pillars to develop Hong Kong's arts and cultural software. I encourage schools to co-operate with the arts and culture sector to nurture the interest in and appreciation of arts and culture by the young people, and to unleash their creativity. We will continue to work with relevant organisations overseas and on the Mainland to introduce more world-class exhibitions and performances to Hong Kong."
Mr Tang added that the first stage public engagement exercise for the development plan of the West Kowloon Cultural District project was under way. He encouraged the public to actively participate in the consultation.
The Home Affairs Bureau collaborates with the arts and culture sector to present "Creative October" this autumn. More than 200 programmes, including concerts, theatre, dance, exhibitions, films and thematic festivals are featured. The activities are well received by the community. Together with the Community Arts Festivals in various districts in Hong Kong, they greatly enrich the arts and culture atmosphere in the community.
