The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, continued his visit to Switzerland today (November 19, Switzerland time), meeting Swiss senior finance officials and banking industry leaders.
He started his day in Bern by paying a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr Dong Junyi. He then attended a working lunch hosted by Swiss Federal Finance Administration Ambassador Alexander Karrer at which they discussed issues of mutual concern.
Returning to Zurich in the afternoon, Professor Chan visited the Swiss Stock Exchange. He was briefed on securities market developments in Switzerland by the Chief Executive Officer of the Exchange, Mr Christian Katz. He also met the Vice Chairman and Chairman (designate) of the Swiss National Bank, Mr Philipp Hildebrand, and the Chairman of UBS, Mr Kaspar Villiger.
Tonight Professor Chan attended a Swiss-Hong Kong Business Association dinner where he briefed guests about Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international financial centre.
Tomorrow (Friday) before concluding his visit to Switzerland, Professor Chan will meet senior members of the Swiss Private Bankers Association and Swiss Bankers Association. Professor Chan will return to Hong Kong this Saturday.
