Wan Chai Sports Fun Day celebrates EAG (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Wan Chai District Council:
    
     Exercising with family and friends is a wonderful holiday activity. You can enjoy the fun of sports and the atmosphere of the East Asian Games at the Wan Chai Sports Fun Day this Sunday (November 22).

     A number of events, including soccer, badminton, rugby and fencing, will be held at different venues in the district from 9am to 9pm on November 22 to tie in with the East Asian Games. The aim is to increase the public's knowledge of sports and to encourage people to exercise.

     There will be many attractive activities at the Fun Day. Besides a youth team and celebrity team, a Hong Kong Stars Team will also participate in a seven-a-side mini soccer competition cum demonstration competition, which will be held at the Southorn Playground Soccer Pitch. In Harbour Road Sports Centre, some artistes including Yoyo Mung, Steven Ma, Sunny Chan and Lawrence Ng will participate in the badminton competition cum demonstration competition.

     Rugby lovers should not miss the Rugby Promotion Day, which will be held in Happy Valley Recreation Ground. They will have the chance to watch not only a boys rugby match, but also the HKSAR East Asian Games women's squad training session. Those interested in fencing can go to Leighton Hill Community Hall to watch the primary schools fencing open competition. Booths and video games on the theme of sports will also be set up at the Sports Carnival. In the fitness assessment, you can do tests for cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility and body fat.

     A variety show will be held at 7pm in the Southorn Playground Soccer Pitch. A number of singers, including Stephanie Cheng, Louis Cheung, Jason Chan and Cherman Chung as well as some district groups, will perform on stage. A "photo zone" with EAG mascots Dony and Ami and the EAG torch will be available for photo-taking.

     Every participant will receive a chop at each activity location. Souvenirs can be redeemed with a minimum of two chops.

     The Wan Chai Sports Fun Day is co-organised by Cultural and Leisure Services Committee of Wan Chai District Council, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Wan Chai District Arts, Cultural Recreational & Sports Association Ltd., Wan Chai Sports Federation, Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, Les Escrimeurs and Tai Hang Residents' Welfare Association Tai Hang Youth Centre, assisted by the Wan Chai District Office, Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China and Hong Kong Wushu Union, and sponsored by Wan Chai District Council.
