A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department (HAD) today (November 19) said the Association of Liaison Officers had decided to call off industrial action and would resume work as normal next Monday (November 23).
Director of Home Affairs Mrs Pamela Tan said, "The management has been maintaining dialogue with the Liaison Officers and following up the various concerns raised by colleagues on the premise that better service would be provided to the public."
Mrs Tan said HAD was reviewing the work procedures of the district offices with a view to providing more efficient services to the public, streamlining work procedures and alleviating workload of staff.
On improvement of public consultation work at district level among the district offices and relevant departments, the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Yau, and Director of Home Affairs Mrs Pamela Tan had met senior management of relevant departments to discuss ways to improve the work flow of local public consultation with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of consultation work. A consensus had been reached during the meeting and relevant departments would formulate detailed improvement measures for implementation as soon as possible.
Mrs Tan reiterated that HAD had been treating colleagues of different grades in the department fairly and equitably. She thanked the executive officer grade and departmental technical grades for their assistance to the department. Mrs Tan said the management would continue to maintain regular communication with staff of various grades and take appropriate measures to address their concerns.
She added that serving the public was the responsibility of civil servants. She welcomed the Association to maintain communication with the management through established channels.
