The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, said today (November 16) that the conclusion of the three year action plan under the "Shenzhen/Hong Kong Innovation Circle" in March this year clearly demonstrated the staunch support given to the co-operation arrangement by the research and development sectors in both places.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen-HK Innovation Circle Pavilion, Miss Wong said the action plan comprised 24 co-operation projects covering such fields as biomedical, integrated circuit, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, solar energy and industrial design, with co-operating units coming from government departments, universities, R&D institutions and community organisations from both sides.

She said that as the first major technology project established in Hong Kong and Shenzhen under the framework of the "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle", DuPont set up its global photovoltaic solar energy business headquarters and R&D centre in Hong Kong in March, and its manufacturing facilities in Guangming, Shenzhen, will be opened tomorrow.

"Both places will continue to work on this co-operative model to attract more overseas enterprises to come to Hong Kong and Shenzhen.  We will make use of the world-class R&D advantages in Hong Kong and Shenzhen to promote  co-operation between the two places and the world," Miss Wong added.

The "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle" exhibition reviews the significant milestones of the co-operation arrangement and showcases its results with a view to enhancing public understanding of the latest developments of the projects.

On display at the Hong Kong Pavilion jointly organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Trade Development Council are Hong Kong's latest innovative and technological capabilities and achievements.
