Secretary for the Environment to visit Israel

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, will leave Hong Kong for Tel Aviv, Israel, this afternoon (November 15) to attend WATEC 2009, an international exhibition and conference on water and environmental technologies.

     Mr Yau will speak at a session of WATEC 2009 on co-operation between non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and businesses in achieving sustainable development.

     During his stay, Mr Yau will call on the Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection, Mr Gilad Erdan; Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour, Mr Binyamin (Fouad) Ben-Eliezer; Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Uzi Landau, and Deputy Director-General, Economic Affairs Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Irit Ben-Abba, to exchange views on environmental issues of mutual concern.

     His itinerary also includes visits to leading Israeli companies in the fields of water and environmental technologies and a meeting with the Israel-Asia Chamber of Commerce.

     Before leaving Israel on November 18, Mr Yau will meet the Director-General, Ministry of National Infrastructure, Mr Hezy Kugler and visit more companies to learn about the latest technology in waste treatment.

     WATEC 2009, or the 5th International Water Technologies, Renewable Energy and Environmental Control Exhibition and the 2nd International Conference, will showcase the latest innovations in areas such as water and energy efficiency and water quality. It is expected to attract around 20,000 participants from more than 80 countries, including more than 70 international delegations and 250 exhibitors.
