Goal to make Hong Kong a RFID trendsetter (with photos)
*******************************************************

The Government had set a goal to make Hong Kong a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) centre and a RFID trendsetter in the Asia Pacific Region, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, said today (November 10).

Speaking at the Hong Kong RFID Awards 2009 presentation ceremony, Miss Wong said the Government spared no effort in promoting the development of RFID technology, to facilitate its adoption in local industries, as well as to encourage the general public to realise its importance.

"For example, the establishment of the Hong Kong RFID Centre last year in Hong Kong Science Park and the continuous funding support for RFID research projects are some of the examples," she said.

However, Miss Wong stressed that all these efforts would not bear fruit without the staunch support from industry and the community.

She said, "To establish Hong Kong as the forerunner in the world in the development of RFID technology and its applications, all of you here can play a part."

Miss Wong noted that standard of entries was very high. On the introduction of the new U-21 Awards, Miss Wong said, "The U-21 Awards can undoubtedly enhance the youngsters' awareness of the importance of technology development, facilitate experience sharing and knowledge transfer, as well as encourage more innovation."
