The government strived to provide opportunities for the younger generation to showcase their talent through the promotion of 3D animation technology, the Assistant Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas Chan, said today (November 8).
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition 2009 at Hong Kong Science Park, Mr Chan said the competition would also enhance public awareness of the importance of innovation and technology.
To enhance the consciousness of the community on environmental protection, "Save Planet Earth" was the theme of this year's competition.
"The competition this year met with an overwhelming response. More than 500 students from about 100 schools participated, reflecting the interest of our new generation in innovation and technology," Mr Chan said.
He said that some of the students were experiencing 3D animation for the first time. They were able to understand and command the technique of 3D in a short time, which showed the good learning capability of the youngsters.
He said, "I believe with excellent learning ability, determination and efforts, the youngsters will be able to explore their own interests and make the best use of their talent through frequent participation in activities on innovation and technology."
The Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition 2009 was co-organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, together with Cyberport and the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre. All participating students of the Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition had free access to the 3D software provided by Autodesk, the official software supplier and were able to join the free training session conducted by Summit Technology (HK) Limited in order to better understand the technology.
Winning entries were showcased to the public in the Innovation Festival 09 held this month.
Also attending the ceremony were the Director of the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre, Dr Jimmy Wong, and the Manager (Marketing) of Cyberport, Miss Serena Wong.
