***********************************************************

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Special Administrative Region Government held a seminar in Chaozhou today (November 5) to brief Mainland enterprises on Hong Kong's investment environment and the financing strategy in using Hong Kong as a platform to explore new business opportunities.

Speaking at the seminar, the Director of GDETO, Mr Rex Chang, said: "Hong Kong is a free market economy.  It has profound experience in marketing, extensive global networks, world class infrastructure and a legal system based on the rule of law.  Through setting up an office in Hong Kong, Mainland enterprises can easily establish contacts with the international market, which will help them to go global."

He added: "Over 470 Mainland enterprises have been listed in the Hong Kong Exchange as at end of August this year, accounting for 37% of the total number of listed companies in Hong Kong.  This indicates an encouraging response from Mainland enterprises in listing in Hong Kong."

The seminar was jointly organised by the Chaozhou Municipal Government, the GDETO and Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Ltd.  It was attended by over 100 representatives from Mainland enterprises.  Experts in the accounting, legal and investment sectors were invited to speak at the event.
