Critical case of human swine influenza at Prince of Wales Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) made the following announcement today (November 4) regarding a new critical case of human swine influenza (HSI):
 
     A 51-year-old male patient with hypertension and obesity was admitted to a private hospital on October 29 due to fever, cough and shortness of breath.  Positive result of HSI was confirmed on the same day and he was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics.  He was transferred to the medical ward of PWH on October 31 and later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.  He is now in critical condition and requiring ventilation support.  The hospital will continue to closely monitor his condition.
