Human Swine Influenza outbreak at male ward of Siu Lam Hospital update

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on 26 patients of three male wards in Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) confirmed with Human Swine Influenza, SLH announced the following updates today (October 30):

     There are seven more patients (aged 35 to 50) and two staff members in two of the concerned wards presenting with fever and flu symptoms. Viral tests were arranged for them and they were confirmed with Human Swine Influenza. Their condition is stable. The patients are being treated under isolation in Tuen Mun Hospital and the staff members are on sick leave.  

     Infection control measures of the hospital are stepped up. Admission to and discharge from the hospital are suspended, while restricted visiting policy is implemented. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. All other patients and the staff in the hospital are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
