Extension of visa-free period for HKSAR passport holders visiting Northern Mariana Islands
*********************************************************

The Immigration Department announced today (October 30) that with effect from November 28, 2009, the visa-free period for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport holders visiting the Northern Mariana Islands will be extended from 30 to 45 days.  HKSAR passport holders are required to present their valid Hong Kong permanent identity cards upon arriving in the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Consulate General of the U.S. in Hong Kong recently informed the Immigration Department of the above decision and arrangement.

"We warmly welcome the extension of the visa-free period and believe that it will help to further promote trade, business and tourism links between Hong Kong and the Northern Mariana Islands," a Government spokesman said.
