Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 403 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 21 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7 pm today (October 28) and a total of 186 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 267 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 136 for other traffic offences.

     Six pedestrians and 166 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,152 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to September this year.

     Of them, 53.6 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
