The Department of Health (DH) called on parents of babies discharged from Tsuen Wan Adventist Hospital between October 19 and 24 who were given Wyeth (Progress Gold) powdered milk in the gift set to contact the hospital.
The appeal followed notification from the hospital concerning an incident of wrongly giving out powdered milk gift sets, which were suitable for young children aged one to three years old, to discharged newborn babies.
It is the practice of the hospital to give out gift sets containing a tin of the same brand of milk formula that the baby had fed on during the hospital stay.
The DH had instructed the hospital to trace all potential recipients, conduct a thorough investigation and stop giving out free breast milk substitutes.
So far, a total of 17 potential recipients were identified, of whom 13 had been contacted. Of these, three had received the wrong powdered milk. Four potential recipients of the wrong gift sets had yet to be located.
The hospital has set up a hotline 2276 7407 for enquiry.
The DH will follow up the case and monitor the actions undertaken by the hospital.
