A fatal case of human swine influenza at TMH

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the announcement regarding the death of a human swine influenza (HSI) patient today (October 24):

     A 14-year-old female patient with cerebral palsy was admitted to paediatrics isolation ward for treatment due to fever and cough on October 7. Positive result of HSI confirmed on the same day. Her condition became critical on October 8 and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit and required ventilation support. Tamiflu and antibiotics were prescribed. The patient succumbed today (October 24). The hospital would like to express condolences to the patient's family.

     The case was reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection.
