In support of the East Asian Games 2009 (EAG) to be held in Hong Kong, the Yuen Long District Council has organised a "Be the Legend" Mosaic Art Design Project in which students and organisations in the district will create a mosaic wall together in celebration of the significant sports event.
A ceremony to launch the project was held today (October 24) and the Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Vincent Liu; Chairman of Yuen Long District Council, Mr Leung Che-cheung; District Officer (Yuen Long), Mr Yeung Tak-keung; and Assistant Director of Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, Ms Wendy Tsang, officiated at the ceremony with leaders from 30 social organisations.
After the ceremony, the officiating guests and students from secondary and primary schools in the district participated in a mosaic workshop and created a mosaic wall around the theme of the East Asian Games and Yuen Long district.
The mosaic wall measures five feet by 10 feet and will be created by the officiating guests, students from secondary and primary schools, district councillors and representatives of district organisations in phases over four consecutive weeks. During the event, workshops will be held where participants can learn the history, skills and colour matching of mosaic art from a mosaic instructor of the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation who will also take part in the mosaic wall creation.
The finished mosaic wall will be mounted outside the ground floor of Yuen Long Government Offices, Kiu Lok Square, Yuen Long, to share the joy of hosting of the EAG in Hong Kong with residents.
The project is organised by the Yuen Long District Working Group on Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games under the Yuen Long District Council and co-organised by the Yuen Long District Office with support from the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation.
In support of the Hong Kong 2009 EAG, the Yuen Long District Council has organised a series of promotion activities from September to November with the Yuen Long District Office and district organisations.
