Outdoor performance "Along the Silk Road" at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza this weekend (with photo)

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a free outdoor performance "Along the Silk Road" on Saturday and Sunday (October 24 and 25) from 3pm to 6pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza featuring percussion, throat-singing, music theatre and ethnic dances.

     Both local and international artists will perform at the two-day programme. The Zarbang ensemble of Afghanistan and Iran will fuse ancient Persian percussion and Sufi music. Throat-singing ensemble Huun-Huur Tu and throat-singing diva Sainkho Namtchylak manipulate the vocal tract to produce two or three notes simultaneously. Bardic Divas from Kazakhstan will play long-necked lutes known as dombra and sing evocatively about romance and history.

     Famous ethnic dancer from China Pasha Umer and her troupe will perform traditional Xinjiang dance, while dancers of the Hong Kong Art Troupe of International Folklore will perform Indian, Central Asia, Kazakh, Italian and Russian ethnic dances.

     Meanwhile, roving artists in costume will present the "Silk Road Heritage", giving the public a taste of the cultures of different countries, including western China, India, Turkey, Egypt and Italy.
