The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will next month collaborate with some of its "old friends of the past 30 years", including conductors Wang Fujian and Aik Yew-goh, huqin master Wong On-yuen, internationally renowned pianist Chen Rueibin and the Spring Melody Chorus from Taiwan, for a concert.
Under the baton of its conductor Wai Sing-fat and guest conductors Wang and Aik, the orchestra will play "As the Moon Rises", "Song of the Fishermen of the East Sea" and "The Dragon". The orchestra will also play "Reflection of the Moon on the Water" and "Hua-Bang-Zi" with Wong On-yuen. Chen Rueibin will perform "The Yellow River" piano concerto and the Spring Melody Chorus will sing a series of Taiwan folk ballads.
The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979 to promote Chinese music and carry forward its rich heritage. Its members are professionally trained recitalists and winners of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Some of them were selected by the Music Office as the "Hong Kong elite" to perform on tours abroad.
In December 1999, the orchestra organised a highly successful 20th anniversary concert entitled "The Way We Were", bringing to Hong Kong the Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra from Singapore, the Professional Cultural Centre Orchestra from Malaysia and the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra from Australia.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra's concert will be held at 8pm, November 28 (Saturday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $90, $120 and $150 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
