Draft Wo Keng Shan Outline Zoning Plan approved
***********************************************

The Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft Wo Keng Shan Outline Zoning Plan (OZP).

"The approved OZP would provide a statutory land use planning framework to guide future development and redevelopment in Wo Keng Shan," a spokesman for the Town Planning Board said today (October 16).

Wo Keng Shan is located to the east of Fanling/Sheung Shui New Town and covers about 571 hectares. The general planning intention of the area is primarily to preserve its natural landscape, to promote conservation and to maintain its rural character.

A total of 2.59 hectares of land is zoned "Village Type Development" to meet the small house demand of indigenous villagers.

A large portion of land at the north-western part of the area, which takes up 154.89 hectares, is zoned "Other Specified Uses" annotated "Landfill" to cover the North East New Territories Landfill and its extension.

A total of 1.87 hectares of land is zoned "Government, Institution or Community" to cater for the development of the proposed Ping Che Fresh Water Service Reservoir, and to cover the existing Cheung Shan Kwu Tsz and the radio repeater building at Hung Fa Leng.

The remaining part of the area, which consists of both actively cultivated and fallow agricultural land, and foothills and wooded knolls, is zoned "Agriculture" and "Green Belt". The two zones cover 47.97 hectares and 362.19 hectares respectively.

The approved Wo Keng Shan OZP No. S/NE-WKS/10 is now available for public inspection during office hours at the Secretariat of the Town Planning Board, the Planning Enquiry Counters of Planning Department in North Point and Sha Tin, the Sha Tin, Tai Po and North District Planning Office, the North District Office, the Ta Kwu Ling District Rural Committee and the Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee.

Copies of the approved OZP are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. The electronic version of the plan can be viewed at the Town Planning Board's website (www.info.gov.hk/tpb).
