*****************************************************

Hung Hom's Shung King Street will be turned into a huge dance floor for some 300 performers on October 18 afternoon to demonstrate the elegance of ballroom and Latin dance and to promote dancesport, a competition event of the East Asian Games (EAG).

"Dance Gala in Kowloon City", jointly organised by the Kowloon City District Office and Kowloon City District Council, will be held from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Sunday in Shung King Street, Whampoa Garden, Hung Hom. To tie in with "Community Arts Festival" and "Cultural EAG", this gala helps bring performing arts to the community and deepen people's understanding of dancesport and the EAG.

After kick-off by the Auxiliary Medical Service band, some 300 dancers aged from eight to 40 will demonstrate the lively charm of standard and Latin dances. Six dancesport athletes from the Hong Kong EAG team will demonstrate tango, samba and cha-cha-cha while 20 others from the youth team will perform jive and other dances.

The highlight of the day will be the cha-cha-cha by 300 dancers on a 2,000-square-foot red carpet. Other performing teams include the Hong Kong DanceSport Performance Troupe, Hong Kong DanceSport Association, Kowloon City District Recreation and Sports Council and Hong Kong Western Dance Council.

Commentary in Cantonese will be provided to help the audience learn more about dancesport ¡V a combination of sport, art and leisure. All are welcome and admission is free.

Apart from Kowloon City District, all District Offices, District Councils and community groups have been organising community festivals to offer a wide variety of free cultural and arts performances from last month to December.
