Government Flying Service open day (with photo)

     People will be able to learn more about the work and daily operations of the Government Flying Service (GFS) when it holds an open day on November 8 (Sunday). Free admission tickets for the open day will be available for collection at Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices from October 22. There is a maximum of two tickets per person.

     The open day will be held at the GFS headquarters at Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau, from 10am to 5.30pm, and it will be divided into three sessions. The entry times are 10am, noon and 2pm respectively. People can have a close look at GFS planes and helicopters, and have fun at various game stalls and exhibitions.

     The GFS has been working closely with other government departments to deliver various flying services to the community, including maritime and land search and rescue, conveyance of casualties, fire fighting, and providing support to law enforcement agencies.

     Advanced GFS aircraft that will perform flying demonstrations include the J41 Fixed Wing, EC155B1 Dolphin and AS332L2 Super Puma helicopters, which were involved in rescue operations after the Sichuan earthquake. A variety of sophisticated search and rescue equipment and engineering maintenance equipment will be featured.

     There will be exhibitions and game stalls will be provided by various government departments and voluntary organisations.

     There will also be performances by the Dog Units of the Hong Kong Police Force, the Motorcycle Team of the Civil Aid Service, the Civil Aid Service Band and the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps Ceremonial Squadron.
