Some 3,000 people from various district groups will participate in a grand parade this Sunday (October 18) afternoon in Kwun Tong to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China(PRC) and Hong Kong's hosting of the East Asian Games.
"The Grand Parade in Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC and East Asian Games" is jointly organised by the Kwun Tong District Office, Kwun Tong District Council and Kwun Tong Area Committees with the assistance of the Kwun Tong Sports Promotion Association Limited.
The grand parade will start after the ceremony at the open space near the junction of Sheung Yee Road and Wang Chiu Road. Leading the parade will be 40 vintage cars and rickshaws, as well as performers dressed in Chinese ethnic costumes.
Performances including dragon and lion dances, Chinese ethnic dances and demonstrations of kung fu and tai chi will show the rich variety of Chinese culture and share with the public the happiness of the 60th anniversary of the PRC.
To coincide with Hong Kong's hosting of the 2009 East Asian games, there will also be performances of artistic cycling and roller skating.
The parade teams will set off from Sheung Yee Road, Kowloon Bay, and proceed along Ngau Tau Kok Road, heading to Yue Man Square in Kwun Tong. Performances will be put up near Lotus Tower for public enjoyment. The grand parade will last for three hours and will end at Yue Man Square Rest Garden.
