The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 9) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $10,000 on behalf of 45 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, namely Wong Chun Ching trading as New Forest Restaurant, Chan Chi Wai and Tam Chun formerly trading as Dei Dao, Ho Shu Tim and Lee Kwok Kit William trading as Fortune Mind Transportation Co and Multi Tone Hong Kong Development Limited trading as Man Ho Seafood Restaurant, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $4,002.34, $3,336.24, $2,362.07 and $694.36 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the defendants to pay $139, $130, $129 and $109 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Multi Tone Hong Kong Development Limited trading as Man Ho Seafood Restaurant pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to a count of failing to enrol its employee in an MPF scheme as required by the Ordinance and was fined $10,000.
