Critical case of human swine influenza at North District Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A North District Hospital (NDH) spokesperson made the following announcement regarding a newly confirmed critical human swine influenza (HSI) case today (October 9):
 
     A 67-year-old male patient developed flu symptoms on October 5 and attended the Accident and Emergency Department of NDH on October 7.  He was admitted to the isolation ward for clinical treatment.  Positive result of HSI was confirmed yesterday (October 8) and he was prescribed Tamiflu and antibiotics.  His condition became critically ill on the same day and he required ventilation support.  The hospital will continue to closely monitor his condition.
