Chief Executive congratulates Professor Charles Kao

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, is pleased to learn today (October 6) that Professor Charles Kao, former Vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

     "The Nobel Prize in Physics is the highest honour in the field of science. Hong Kong people and I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Kao on receiving the honour. An outstanding scientist aside, Professor Kao is a true gentleman and a committed educator. We are immensely proud to have such an eminent figure in Hong Kong," Mr Tsang said.

     Professor Kao was the Vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1987 until 1996.
