Two convicted of obstructing public officers
********************************************

A man was fined $3,000 in Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (October 6) after being convicted of obstructing public officers in the performance their duties under section 139 of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance.

A woman who committed the same offence during an operation by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) was earlier (September 15) ordered by court to be bound over to be of good behaviour in the sum of $2,000 for a period of 12 months.

In the hawker control operation outside an exit of Admiralty MTR Station on August 20, the defendants tried to snatch abandoned articles seized by FEHD officers, causing injuries to an officer.

"Obstructing public officers who are performing their duties is not only improper, but also carries legal consequences," a department spokesman said.

He urged the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties.
