The Government launched today (October 5) a two-month public consultation on how the new Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) should operate to fulfil its mission as a public service broadcaster in Hong Kong.
The consultation exercise covers areas such as the public purposes of the new RTHK, the new programming opportunities, its performance evaluation as well as accountability to the community. Members of the public are encouraged to give their views to help the new RTHK move forward into a new era of broadcasting.
The consultation document is available at the website of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (www.cedb.gov.hk/ctb/psb). Views and comments should be sent to the bureau by email to psb@cedb.gov.hk; by fax to 2511 1458; or by post to 2/F, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong. The deadline for submissions is December 4, 2009.
The Government announced on September 22 that RTHK would remain as a Government department and would be tasked to take up the mission as the public service broadcaster in Hong Kong with appropriate resources provided for service and operational enhancement to enable it to better serve the community. The Government will also consult the Legislative Council and District Councils.
