The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 29) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $87,000 on behalf of 51 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Defendant Yuen Chi Keung formerly trading as Key Cheong Chan Detergent Hong, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA $3,241.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other seven defendants, Deschamps Catering Company Limited, The Spa By Slimming Found Limited, Central Digital Photo Finishing Centre O/B Crystal View Consultants Limited, Sky Success Management Limited trading as Phoenix Seafood Hotpot Restaurant, Intech LCD Group Limited, Pang Yat Tat trading as Gold Glorious Furniture Decoration Co and Best Leader Engineering Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $40,611.28, $18,578.11, $18,553.34, $5,104.88, $664.42, $598.30 and $402.26, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $99, $176, $126, $194, $145, $115, $129 and $125.
