The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (September 26):

Since September 14, three patients (aged 3 to 13) and three staff members (a doctor, a nurse and a supporting staff) in paediatric ward of PYNEH have presented with fever and flu-like symptoms. Subsequent viral tests showed that all were confirmed with human swine influenza. One patient has recovered and was discharged while the other two are being treated under isolation. Among them, one patient is in serious condition due to his past health problem while the other is in stable condition. Two of the staff members who are now on sick leave are in stable condition and the third has recovered and returned to work.

PYNEH has enhanced infection control measures in accordance with the Hospital Authority Infection Control Guidelines and will closely monitor the condition of affected patients and staff. Patient service remains normal in the ward.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
