Improvement and extension of Kam Pok Road in Yuen Long

     The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (September 25) on proposed improvement works at Kam Pok Road in Yuen Long. The project aims to provide a direct route connecting Tai Sang Wai to Castle Peak Road (Tam Mi), and to relieve the traffic at the junction of Fairview Park Boulevard and Kam Pok Road at Yuen Long.

     The proposed works include construction of a new section of single two-lane carriageway of approximately 490m long and 10.3m wide with associated footpaths 2m wide connecting the existing Kam Pok Road to Castle Peak Road (Tam Mi); improvement of a private section of Kam Pok Road of approximately 145m long (east of Pok Wai South Road) to a single two-lane carriageway of 10.3m wide with associated footpaths 2m wide; improvement of an existing private road of approximately 155m long between Yau Pok Road and Man Yuen Road to a single two-lane carriageway of 7.3m wide with associated footpaths 2m wide; construction of sections of cycle tracks 360m long and 3.5m wide; and ancillary works including drainage, water supplies, slope and landscaping works, construction of vertical noise barriers as well as provision of lighting.

     The construction work will start in the second quarter of 2011 and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

     The plan and scheme are available for public inspection at the following places during office hours:

(i) Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, Ground Floor, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong;

(ii) Yuen Long District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, Yuen Long District Office Building, 269 Castle Peak Road, Yuen Long; and

(iii) District Lands Office, Yuen Long, 9th floor, Yuen Long Government Offices, 2 Kiu Lok Square, Yuen Long.
  
     Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 16/F, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong, on or before November 24.
